Who are you beyond GreenShift?

POLITEHNICA Bucharest assumes the mission to train specialists in different technical fields that are able to use valuable scientific, technical and cultural knowledge, to contribute to the technological, economic and social-cultural progress of Romanian society and the contemporary world. Our university ensures a performant education, developed and perfected through a complex research activity. Two centuries after the founding of the university and a century after the independence of Romania, the continuous thread of our goals remains the same: to educate for a better future, to find solutions through research for a better present, and to positively influence the context of our society.

What do you bring to GreenShift?

The National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest (UPB) brings extensive technical expertise in Artificial Intelligence and High-Performance Computing to the GreenShift consortium.

Spearheaded by the MobyLab research group, our contribution is deeply rooted in applied research for smart mobility, intelligent traffic management, and advanced vehicular networking. This specialized knowledge ensures that the program’s curriculum remains at the cutting edge of Edge AI and sustainable transport solutions, directly addressing the sector’s most pressing decarbonization challenges.

Within the project, UPB will lead several critical actions designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world application. We will drive the capacity-building efforts by developing a comprehensive Train-the-Trainer program, complete with tailored resources, to ensure that faculty across all partner European institutions are fully equipped to deliver the new curriculum to the highest standards. To foster direct industry engagement, UPB will orchestrate a dynamic series of weekend workshops, guest lectures, and networking events, bringing together students, researchers, and leading digital skills experts. Furthermore, we will help design the European Mobility Programme, establishing a framework that enables students and educators to gain cross-border, hands-on experience through placements with host SMEs and partner companies.

To maximize the program’s visibility and long-term impact, UPB will also spearhead the collection and development of high-value case studies and multimedia success stories. By showcasing these practical applications of AI and HPC across Europe, we aim to drive the broader adoption of green digital technologies within the transport sector. Finally, as one of Romania’s main technical institutions, UPB provides direct access to an elite STEM talent pool and a robust network of industry stakeholders, underpinned by our extensive, proven track record in successfully delivering European initiatives focused on the green and digital transition.
